“As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love.
just as I have kept my Father’s commandments
and remain in his love.

Last week has been a bit stressful. The scorching heat and work being a bit dull with more residents to share the load, but somehow I am just unable to sleep restfully. Persistent vague worries about my current job, future, and random thoughts keep looming in my mind!

As I sit down to type this reflection, next to me is a list of unfinished tasks, which I have been pushing away for a few days, and then I saw wonderful comments on my last week’s post—yes, reflecting on The Word alone is a form of prayer and intimacy with God too.

Jesus was the son of God! He needed to do nothing—yet he came to the earth and lived 33 years like you and me! Worked and created, walked and preached, and broke rules. He felt they were so unnecessary. In the medical world, there is a lot of hierarchy—where the seniormost are expected to have maximum knowledge and experience and the juniormost are learning on their feet and picking through their mistakes. Often I feel, how did Jesus have the strength or the disciples after his ascension have the will to push through it all—THE HOLY SPIRIT!!

If you have watched the series “The Pitt,” it does accurately describe the chaos in an emergency room, and as I was an OB/GYN to begin with, I was surrounded by 2 lives at every bed and corner—now with patients with cancer! It definitely takes a toll on one’s mental & physical health, and all I can do post-work is just be in a silent room with the least stimulation. Doing the good work as per commandments is also similar—it takes a toll on our faith and decisions, especially on a daily basis with a world of constant stimulation, hate, and envy. The hierarchy keeps pushing us down and the egos get bruised, and it gets so hard to do anything according to the commandments—standing up for the right is very hard!

I ask Jesus and the Holy Spirit for strength and calm to get through it all with no hate but to stand for the truth and justice! I ask for healing for my mental and physical health so I can be better and focused on better care for my patients and myself too!

Let us pray for all suffering with terminal cancer like my neighbor Suzette. Bless her, Lord, to get through these hours, and bless her husband Glen with strength and faith through these trying times!

AMEN

  8. Annalise, I am lifting up in prayer Suzette, Glen, you and all people battling end stage diseases. I too have Stage 4 cancer and I choose to pick up the weight/cross of this illness everyday and take it on the journey with me. I will not let it pull me down into a pit of fear, anger or despair. With the Lord walking with all of us on our journeys we can believe, love, trust & surrender to the Father & His plan. That doesn’t mean we give up but we need to remember His plan for his children is always good even when we don’t understand it. Have a blessed day and keep helping your patients with love & compassion.
