Solemnity of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, June 29th:

The Lord Stood By Me In All My Trials

On this feast of Saints Peter and Paul, the Scriptures remind us that discipleship is not without risk. Peter is imprisoned for preaching the Gospel, yet God sends an angel to lead him to freedom. Paul, reflecting on his own trials, testifies that the Lord rescued him from what he calls “the lion’s mouth” and remained faithful through every hardship.

The lives of these two great apostles reveal that following Christ comes at a cost. They faced opposition, suffering, rejection, and constant uncertainty. Yet neither relied solely on personal strength. Their confidence rested in the Lord who had called them.

The same God who rescued Peter and sustained Paul continues to act in our lives today. While we may not be freed from every difficulty, we are never abandoned in them. The Lord remains faithful to those he calls. He strengthens us in moments of fear, guides us through challenges, and gives us the grace needed to persevere.

The feast of Peter and Paul invites us to trust more deeply in God’s providence. The mission is ultimately his. He is the one who calls, equips, and sustains. As we embrace the demands and sacrifices of discipleship, we do so with confidence, knowing that the Lord who protected Peter and Paul continues to watch over his Church and accompany each of us on our journey of faith.

“The Lord stood by me and gave me strength” (2 Timothy 4:17). May this be our confidence and our prayer today. Have a wonderful Week
