The Holy Spirit inspired our blog.
Once again we are changing from what we normally do. At the Veterans Home, we held a Communion service, and The Holy Spirit had me talk about what we wrote about last week.
We will put what the Nazarans could have been thinking when they heard Jesus say what he did. Red (the color of anger) because they proceeded to take Jesus out of the Temple to try and throw Him over the cliff.
The Rejection at Nazareth. He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.”
Bold mine Luke 4 : 16-19
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me,
This of course would get many mad at Jesus for claiming He is the Anointed One.
Jesus?
I saw Him when he was a young boy, and now you’re telling me He is the Anointed One? I’ve heard of what He’s done, but have seen no evidence of His doing great Miracles here in Nazareth.
Has Jesus done great deeds in your life? He has in mine as we have written about in prior blogs.
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
The poor, how about me?
They missed the point. Everyone without a Relationship with The Triune God is poor, and that relationship is one built on LOVE!
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives.
They’re in Jail because they committed crimes, I am not really interested.
They missed that everyone is a captive who is not dancing in a Celestial Dance full time with the Triune God, and that dance is a dance of Love
and recovery of sight to the blind,
How many blind people do you know, who cares.
Everyone who does not welcome The Holy Spirit into their lives on a daily basis, is blind to the Love, Joy, and Peace that can be lived with a close Relationship with your Father, Brother, and The Holy Spirit.
to let the oppressed go free,
Once again I don’t fit in any of the above categories, what is Jesus then to me? He can’t be the Anointed one.
Look arround you and see all of the people who are oppressed with stress, anger, drugs, alcohol, and we haven’t even started listing the oppressions. In the jail I would guess ninety percent of the men are there because of drug and alcohol abuse.
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.”
One year, that’s all, what happens next year?
At the Communion service we hit on this hard. Jesus was probably 31 -32, and this is a year acceptable to the Lord?
For eight-five years I missed this one. We have said there is no tomorrow, we said it last week, but only on one line. At the communion service, my eyes were opened to:
There is no tomorrow. I got up today, I went to bed tonight, and will get up again today. This became crystal clear to me when dad rose from bed, got dressed, ate breakfast and died – today.
We live in this year and when the year changes we arrive once again in this year.
And
This I learned at the V/A is very important, because a year of favor is this day and this year, this all started when Jesus proclaimed what He did in Nazareth.
And,
Once again all of what Jesus was talking about revolved around LOVE, and from LOVE comes …………….. you by now can fill in the dots so that a Year of the Lord was and is established for those willing to have a change in heart.
Prayer:
If you want to grow in Love, Joy, Peace this is a result of growth in Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.

We would like to go back and repeat what St. Thomas Aquinas said after he saw Heaven during Mass. “Everything I have written is straw.”
He didn’t finish the book he was writing, and died three months later, and is in Heaven because he is a Saint.
That one word straw defines a lifetime of work, that when St. Tomas saw the reality of what Heaven is really all about, he – I yes, I am thinking – never had contemplated a God of OUTREAGEOUS LOVE.
I also believe that like so many he was looking for vengeance, and this is not what the Triune God is all about.
All you have to do is sit down by yourself and review in your mind all that you know about Jesus, and you will see His entire life was Outreageous, as we have talked about in prior blogs.
And,
Lastly, Love, Joy, Peace are concepts never known before Jesus, and barely known by Christians today.
Wow what a wonderful trip this has been for me and I pray for you, which is another reason we enJoy writing our blog on a weekly basis.

I smile every time I read or think of Brad’s comment, Jesus can and is at times very demanding.
