we have such a high priest,
who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne
of the Majesty in heaven, a minister of the sanctuary
and of the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up.

As I move to my new location, I find a church at every nook and corner. Each church belongs to a different sect and denomination of Christianity. While I found an accomdation opposite a CSI ( church of south India) , my landlord is a protestant. I had to google search and verify for a Latin rite Roman catholic church in English!

I am fascinated by how MAN has divided a simple truth of Jesus the son of God into different divisions based on every possible difference, while I am often asked if Im catholic here, I encounter – Jacobites, Marthomites and syro malabar rite catholics. I am honestly clueless what are the differentiating features, so when my hindu friend asked me if this was my church , I was like I shall have to check! Easiest trick – check for name and if not in roman script, look our for the statute of Mother Mary – never fails!

While todays reading did hint that human priests are after all Man and we need the Son of God to be the Highest priest, it gives me solace especially with all the scandal around the church! Events have happened and people have lost faith in the church, people are being taken for a ride by some extremists too, however in all this , faith is very personal!

While I never heard a God talking or dramatic events occurring, I did see that persistent prayer and faith in your own home and room can give one immense courage! Many my age youth refuse to believe in God or argue about the church and its issues, I believe that there is a High Priest and a Mother who push our petty petitions to God.

While I embark on a new journey, away from my absolute comfort zone, I know I am doing this with a purpose and I shall always thank god for the opportunity! Thank you to all of the readers who relate and rejoice in my celebration. May we stop dividing our faith on lines of location and creed and remind ourselves of the high priest to run to !

PRAYER:

Thank you Lord for your Son, to set us a direct contact for your blessings! Guide us through everyday and make us worthy of it all!

AMEN.

  1. Tomorrow we learn what churches will be closed because of low attendance and lack of priests. Your point of division hurting us is so true.

  2. Thank you Analise. We appreciate your thoughts and views on the readings and how they relate to our everyday lives…no matter where we are. The Son of God is with us always and everywhere. 4. Annalise, christian, human, doctor and on…. Thank you for taking the time to write reflections for a Catholic moment. Your honesty and vulnerability are a true gift to me and many, I presume who belong to this family. May God bless You and your new vocation.

  5. Dear Analise, we here in the USA have many different Christian faiths.
    Baptist, Methodist, church of Christ,
    Presbyterian, etc, etc…
I like to focus on the commonalities rather than the differences.
Would you be surprised that after the second coming of Christ that not one religion had Christianity 100% right?
Anyway, be careful in this new environment you are entering.

  6. Our high priest is absolutely able to do whatever we can imagine.

May the Lord be with you in your new assignment. All the best.

  7. Great reflection Analise.
It made me think of how in the series The Chosen Jesus goes to people from every race to preach. He doesn’t care where they are from, just that they are in need of him. We all brothers and sisters in Christ.
