Am I Happy When Others Receive God’s Blessings?
Gospel: Luke 13:10–17
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
In today’s Gospel, Jesus heals a woman who has been crippled for eighteen years. Imagine her suffering and the joy she experiences when Jesus sets her free! Yet, instead of rejoicing with her, the leader of the synagogue becomes indignant because Jesus heals her on the Sabbath.
The leader is so focused on the rules that he fails to recognize the wonderful thing God has done for this woman.
Sometimes, we can be like him. When God blesses someone else, instead of rejoicing, we become jealous or find reasons to criticize. When another person succeeds, we may wonder why we have not received the same blessing.
But why should another person’s blessing become a source of sorrow for me? Has God run out of blessings?
My dear friends, God’s goodness to others does not diminish His love for us. Someone else’s success does not mean we have failed, and another person’s answered prayer does not mean God has forgotten ours.
Saint Paul reminds us, “Love does not envy” (1 Corinthians 13:4). True Christian love enables us to rejoice in the blessings of others, even when we are still waiting for our own.
Food for Thought: Do I genuinely rejoice when others are blessed, or do I secretly become jealous? Am I sometimes more concerned about criticizing others than celebrating God’s goodness in their lives?
Let us examine our hearts and ask ourselves honestly: Am I a hypocrite?
May the Lord give us generous hearts that rejoice in the blessings of others and trust in His timing for our own.
Have a blessed week!
