Homily for Monday of the 28th Week in Ordinary Time – Year A Gospel: Luke 11:29–32

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the people that no sign will be given to them except the sign of Jonah. Jonah preached repentance to the people of Nineveh, and they turned away from their sins. Jesus is greater than Jonah because, through His death and Resurrection, He brings salvation to the world.

The people of Jesus’ time demanded signs, yet many refused to believe in Him. We, too, sometimes ask God for signs before we are willing to trust Him. We may want Him to answer our prayers in a particular way before we believe in His presence.

But God has already given us the greatest sign of His love: Jesus Christ, who died and rose again for our salvation.

The question is not whether God gives us signs, but whether our hearts are open to recognizing Him and responding to His Word. Like the people of Nineveh, we are called to repentance and conversion.

Have a wonderful week
