Friday, October 11th – For the day of the Lord is coming

“Gird yourself and weep”

In my Latin classes in my parochial high school we always had to gird our loins and follow Caesar through Gaul. I really did not want to go to Gaul but ended up taking four years of Latin. I was not sure what it meant exactly and I did not ask. It was enough to say that it meant to get ready and that is what our scriptures for today are saying in the Book of Joel and the Gospel of Luke.

When Jesus says in today’s Gospel “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”   We have issues today that choice is asked of us.

Satin is looking for everyone’s soul. Jesus is saying that He may have cleansed some of a demon, but that demon could come back and bring others with him.

Our souls are the quarry. None of our family or each of us in particular can stand up to these demons alone. Jesus said that, “the Kingdom of God has come upon you.”  We are strong only in the presence of Jesus and the Holy Spirit in our lives. Now I forgot where I heard this but alone we are vulnerable but Jesus and I are an overwhelming majority.

Our message is to be prepared. The demons of this world are stronger than we are. Our only defense is the Lord. The stronger demon will take away our armor and defenses unless we stay awake and prepared. Our armor is Jesus and prayer.

Betty Davis in the movie “All about Eve” said “fasten your seat belts it’s going to be a bumpy night.” Its up to us to be prepared and make our nights less bumpy by clinging to the armor of Jesus.

God bless you always
