Friday May 13th, Fourth Week of Easter

‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me.There are many rooms in my Father’s house;if there were not, I should have told you.I am going now to prepare a place for you,and after I have gone and prepared you a place,I shall return to take you with me;so that where I am you may be too.You know the way to the place where I am going.’Thomas said, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus said:‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.No one can come to the Father except through me.’

Our retired Pastor, Msgr Dorney, celebrated Mass last Sunday, Mother’s Day. He mentioned the large number of funerals in the parish recently. He mentioned that at funerals people celebrate the life the deceased had here on earth. He felt that people miss part of the point when they celebrate the life of the deceased person. The real celebration of life is the new life that the person has with Christ in Heaven. Our reward is the life that we receive if we trust God.

God’s love has no boundries. Abraham believed that the countless generations before him and us have a room set aside for them. Importantly, there is one for us. There is one for all our loved ones who have preceded us.

Jesus is the key to that new life, but we the living on earth have a mission to follow the way of Christ, the truth of Christ and the life of Christ. Recently, I read an old issue of Time Magazine dated, February 28th, 2022. The cover story was about a young man, 11 years old, who was noted for his acts of kindness. There were many other stories of young people who are making a difference today on earth. The stories gave me hope for the future of our world. It showed that Jesus message of loving one another is alive and well.

Just like Abraham, my grandparents and my parents we have to trust God. Because they trusted God we have a chance to that same life . The way to that new life is to follow Jesus Christ and to spread His message of love the best we can.

God Love You Always
