Friday, June 19th ,11th Week in Ordinary Time

‘Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and woodworms destroy them and thieves can break in and steal. But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven,

My sister, Patti, lives is Gray, Ky. It is a small rural community in the State of Kentucky in the United States. She just bought a house and needs fixing up. Sometimes the projects are much too much for her and she has to step back and appreciate what she has. She has her mind, her faith and a family that supports her emotionally.

There are some things that we should keep but the treasures of love and the gifts we have as humans are not one of them. “Money and wealth are only chips to get you through life.” After that they are only good to those who benefit from your estate or the thief who sneaks in darkness.

My wife, Anna, will turn the light on in a closet and then shut the door and forget the light is still on.. One of the attributes of God is that He gives generously of Himself. He doesn’t need gold, but His treasures are heavenly. He wants to give them to us and not hoard them in a closet. We too, must do the same with our time, talents and treasures. ‘The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is sound,, your whole body will be filled with light. But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be all darkness. If then, the light inside you is darkness, what darkness that will be!’ Light like treasure can only be appreciated if you can pierce the darkness. If a trillionaire or beggar dies and go to heaven, they will have only the heavenly treasures that they earned on earth. A good deed or a kind word. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Money is nice to have, but what is even better is knowing that you made the world a nicer place, because you have the love of God in your heart. These are the real treasures of life. The kind words we give or love to a neighbor are treasures that belong in heaven.

God Love You Always
