32 John 06 v10-11 - Feeding the Five Thousand (Miracle of Loaves and Fishes)

God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through Him

God is Love!

We are Love !

We can’t experience God’s love by ourselves. Love isn’t something we acquire. It is only experienced if we give it.

Pause and think about that for a moment….Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God.

We are asked today to be more like God. Now that does not imply that we are gods, but that if we know and love God we are to be more like Him. As imperfect beings that seems that it is an impossible task.

This brings me to a quote of one of my favorite saints, Mother Theresa of Calcutta. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

So today think of the small things we can do to show love. Praying for those who are ill. Lifting up our police, firemen, first-responders, medical professionals, our elected leaders, friends and enemies. ( I slipped that one into the mix).

Because of social distancing, our opportunities for being more like God are more limited. However, never deny God or the small things a person can do to show God’s love. It is our way of be more like Him. In the Gospel from Mark today was the recounting of the loaves and fishes. The analogy is for today in the our being fed by the Eucharist.

Nonetheless, as important as that is the results are importantly remarkable. It is how God’s love overflows in our lives. In Mark’s Gospel there were twelve wicker baskets left over.

God’s love overflowing! Too much for everyone to consume. Can you imagine a world with that kind of love.

How does it begin?

It begins with your and my simple acts of love today.

God Love you Always

  1. Yes, simple acts of love, even to our enemies. What a wonderful way for God’s children to live. Thanks, Bob.

  2. I do not dislike our new neighbors. I do not know them. They will not come out to talk when we go over repeatedly in the early morning to ask them to turn their music down that wakes us up from a deep sleep when we have earplugs in our ears and all windows closed and lasts until it is time to get up at 6:30. I would like to understand them. As a practical application, how do I show love for my actual neighbours in the situation?

  3. Anonymous, contact your local police department and ask what the noise regulations are in your area. It’s not mean or selfish, this is asking for information. Your neighbors may be inconsiderate, or going deaf, or doing something they don’t want others to hear. You have done what Jesus asks us to do, you tried direct correction. Maybe it’s time for the community to step in. God be with you!
