Friday October 16th in Ordinary Time

You too have been stamped with the seal of the Holy Spirit of the Promise, the pledge of our inheritance which brings freedom for those whom God has taken for his own, to make his glory praised.

The Holy Spirit does not lie!

I have witnessed many miracles in my life that I attribute to the work of the Holy Spirit. There are so many that not all of them come with trumpet calls from angels on high. They might be simple things but no less the work of the Spirit.

At one time I was a member of a Charismatic Prayer Group in Florida. I really have seen many miracles and seen the Spirit work in many people’s lives. Nonetheless, I have heard prophesies declared as the words of the Holy Spirit that were not true. They might have had nice messages and good meanings, but they had nothing to do with the Holy Spirit. When they were spoken at the meetings or published from some Holy place, the result was a cold wash over my soul, that said “No, No that is not what the Spirit said”‘.

Don’t give up on the Spirit!

The Holy Spirit will not tell you to sin or to ignore other passages of scripture. The Holy Spirit does inspire us in many ways and circumstances. The Holy Spirit does guide our Pope, Bishops and Priests in leading His people. The Holy Spirit guides us in our everyday lives as well. Our Gospel today says, ‘Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees – that is, their hypocrisy. Hypocrisy can creep into me or anyone without us being aware of it. We as a people are not perfect and are not exempt from mistakes. The most comforting thing I know is that the Spirit will guide us if we tend to be too full of ourselves. Just like Confession we admit we are wrong when we are wrong. This is a daily exercise for me. I admit that I am not perfect.

We can’t live our lives and not act because we might be wrong, be a hypocrite or make a mistake. We need to humble ourselves before the Holy Spirit and ask for His help. He is the silent person of the Trinity, but no less God. We received the Holy Spirit at Baptism, but we must give Him permission in our lives to speak the Truth and direct us in His ways.

In Cursillo we say the following prayer daily based in part on Psalm 104:30.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Every day we renew ourselves to do better and serve the Lord. If we listen the Spirit will speak to us in feelings or an incentive to act. We need to listen.

God Love You Always
