‘Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven are continually in the presence of my Father in heaven.’
Do you pray to your guardian angel?
When they were younger my mother and aunt grew up in a large Polish family and in Milwaukee with superior mass transit she never learned to drive. For family gatherings there would always be someone with a car to take her. Years later after my father died, my sister and I would take my mother to the or doctor or any other place she needed to go for knitting supplies or materials to sew a garment.
As my mother aged it became harder for her to walk. I would pray for a parking space close to the door to save her steps. Miracles happened and it seemed that there was a divine intervention that produced a parking space for my mom. I know that it was her guardian angel that provided the space. Eventually she was authorized a disability blue placard.
We celebrated this week the living Archangel Raphael from the Book of Tobit. Great reading if you have never read it. Guardian Angels are always around us and given little credit. They probably saved our lives or more importantly saved us from sinning so many times. When I live in Denver, Colorado in the 1970’s I had intended to go to lunch with a married woman who I had worked with as a friend. I went to my car to meet her and discovered that some kids had stolen my car. I did not make it to lunch with her. It took the Denver Police 3 days to find the car in front of a Junior High School. A neighbor complained about the car being parked near her drive. My boss recommended that I not pursue the relationship because it wasn’t healthy and could lead to an adulterous relationship. I don’t think the angel caused the kids to sin. They were probably going to steal a car anyway, but my guardian angel might have directed them to my car to save my soul.
I could think back about other instances were there when luck or more likely my guardian angel saved me or helped when I wasn’t aware. What about you? Think about when you were a child. Think about last week. Your guardian angel is there working in the background of your lives. As part of my morning prayers after I say my daily rosary I say the following prayer.
“Angel of God my Guardian Dear to whom God’s love entrusts me here ever this day be at my side to light to guard to rule to guide. Amen”
I have other prayers but this is always one of the many I say along with Saint Joseph, Saint Gertrude and an Act of Contrition. Our scriptures today say, The disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. The older I get the more I like to be more like a child. Not childish. More meaningfully, I acknowledge my dependence more and more on Jesus and the angels that He sends into my life. I see the Kingdom of God in so many things. At church and in general with the people I meet both good and bad.
Pray that your Guardian Angel help to make you more child like.
God Love You Always
