The Holy Spirit inspired our blog.
The Rejection at Nazareth. He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.”
Underline mine Luke 4 : 16-19
Today is a VERY different day.
There’s no referral to today’s Mass readings, the bolded quote is missing from the above passage, and we underlined instead, because once I read what Fr. Richard Rohr wrote on Monday 7/27, I knew what we would be writing about, and I yes I pray I will pay close attention to the Holy Spirit so I get this right, it’s that important.
Because of copyright laws, I can’t copy and paste what he wrote, so we will very briefly summarize what Fr. Rohr said as best as we can.
I yes, I could never figure out why they wanted to throw Jesus off of the cliff after He read the passage from Isiah.
Jesus read:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.”
But,
Isaiah wrote:
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
Fr. Rohr starts his blog by stating that, and we quote, Jesus read his own Hebrew Scriptures through the lens of love:
Jesus excluded many parts of the Bible and the above reference to what He read in Nazareth shows this beautifully.
In Nazareth, Jesus turned the tables upside down, proclaiming He was God, and establishing a year acceptable to God.
Which was not a year of VENGEANCE!
So far I am very interested in what Fr. Rohr wrote,
But,
Where is he going with this blog is what went through my, yes my mind?
And then came the ending:
Paul seems to say you can only judge Goodness by its Fruits Luke 6: 43-45
And
Then Fr. Rohr refers to the Fruits (?) and names each Fruit to end his blog.
For four years we have been talking about the Fruit of The Holy Spirit, and for four years I, yes I have felt we have overdone this ”Move on, change the subject,”I can hear many of you thinking,
But
Now I know after reading Fr. Rohr’s complete blog we ARE TRULY ON THE RIGHT TRACK, AND MORE HAS TO BE SAID NOT LESS.
IT’S THAT IMPORTANT
Take past blogs titles for example:
Wednesday May 20, And he put a new song into my mouth,
Wednesday, June 24 “and my God is now my strength!”
Wednesday, July 22, So whoever is in Christ is a new creation:
We just quickly picked three blogs and look at the titles, and there are many, many more, and look at what the titles were promising.
A new song – a new strength – and a new creation, for YOU!
And,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Because today is the ONLY day we have and this is the only year we are living in There is no tomorrow!
If you want Fr. Rohr’s blog email me (email below) and I will forward it to you.)
Prayer:
If you want to grow in Love, Joy, Peace this is a result of growth in Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.
Sidebar:
When I first read what Fr. Rohr wrote about, I felt the entire blog would be about what he wrote.
No, not what The Holy Spirit wanted.
Something happened in the Jail last week that we just had to pass along.
I don’t know his name, but we quoted a prisoner who said he had learned our prayers and had a potential sentence of seventeen years change to his getting out in a week.
What we observed when he reported this was he was lacking Joy, but I celebrated in our blog and in our prayers.
Well two weeks ago he said his sentence had been changed to three years, and he was really down, and I can hear many of you thinking, “who wouldn’t be down?”
Please never forget – we have told the men and all of you that you can’t let others determine your actions – Jesus taught this from His cross when He forgave YOU and ME for driving the nails into His Precious Hands and Feet.
Also,
Never forget, St. Francis said :”Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.” Google AI
I believe the prisoner stopped praying the “Nine,” and our other prayers, and someone noticed a change and the judge reconsidered his decision because the prisoner wasn’t reflecting the Joy he had had when they first met.
Today (Wednesday) I just noticed, a year acceptable to the Lord had been taken away from the prisoner when he let satan into his life, and stopped living in the Love Joy, Peace of The Holy Spirit.
What a fascinating day this has been.
Netflix: Martha Kelly emailed Gail and I and told us to watch SOUL ON FIRE and this movie ties right in to what we have been writing about in today’s blog.
