Readings for the Memorial of Saint Francis Xavier, Priest

On this mountain the LORD of hosts

will provide for all peoples

A feast of rich food and choice wines,

juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.

On this mountain he will destroy

the veil that veils all peoples,

The web that is woven over all nations;

he will destroy death forever.

The Lord GOD will wipe away

the tears from all faces;

The reproach of his people he will remove

from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken.

On that day it will be said:

“Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us!

This is the LORD for whom we looked;

let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!”

For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain.

Emphasis mine:  Isaiah 25:6-10a

The first reading for today is from Isiah, (above) the second reading is the 23 Psalm, and the Gospel reading is Jesus feeding the people with seven loaves and a few fish.  Matthew 15.

All three readings tie in beautifully.  Isaiah starts with a description of life after death, followed by the 23 Psalm that proclaims “I will live in the house of the Lord forever”, and then the gospel story of Jesus feeding the people and having seven baskets of food left over.  Isiah tells us that there will be reJoycing.

On this mountain the LORD of hosts

will provide for all peoples

A feast of rich food and choice wines,

juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.

And

Isiah amplifies this statement by expanding it the second time,

juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.

God will also On this mountain destroy

the veil that veils all peoples.

I, and I pray, we believe Isiah is referring to the veil as  sin, which keeps us from fully enjoying our relationship NOW with the Triune God.

If you refer back to last week’s blog we said that St. Thomas Aquinas said “Everything I have written seems to me as straw in comparison to what I have seen,

What we didn’t report was that others speculated that St. Thomas had a stroke or some other medical problem and this is why he didn’t write anymore.

No!

St. Thomas saw heaven and the Love, Joy and Peace that fills Heaven, and no explanation was needed nor possible from a finite person.

A question that I had for a number of my younger years was, who would feed the people.

Stupid Question

The answer is God!  As explained by St. Matthew, which I now realize is why the Gospel reading is in this set of readings.

And

If you will take a few minutes to reflect on what awaits you now and when you go to Heaven  you will rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!”

Prayer:

If you want to grow in Love, Joy and Peace, this is a result of growth in Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.

Sidebar:

Years ago, I attended a Mass for Peace in the world, and learned that Mary promised that if we pray the Lumunis mysteries of the Rosary, She would take our partition for Peace to her son Jesus.

The Holy Spirit encouraged me to say the Luminous Mysteries, and ask for Peace in the world.

We have done this for decades, and there are times I feel God is deaf to our, mine and the many others who are doing the same prayer with the same partition.

Recently, within the last few months,The Holy Spirit revealed to me that if everyone lived the “Nine” Fruit of the Holy Spirit, Peace would spread throughout the world.

As I look back to when I first realized this, and now, this is so obvious, that I wonder how I could be so stupid.

Yet I am.

In my younger years I felt God was a god of punishment, and I now realize this is absolutely wrong.  We have to choose whom we want to follow, and each choice has consequences.

satan – hate, envy, addictions, etc.

God – Love, Joy, and Peace.

As we have written, I tried worshiping my way (satan),  and God’s way when it was in my best interest.

I only lost!

God wants an easy relationship  –  Follow me.  Two words that say it all.

Start praying the Lumunis Mysteries, and do your part in bringing Peace into this world.

Two weeks ago we wrote about the Beatitudes, and told how if you look at them as a call to action, then your prayers for Peace surely would qualify and God will call you a Peace Maker, because you Got up.  Go ahead, do something, move, you peacemakers, for you shall be called children of God.
