Bob Garvey

One of the comments from my reflection today was from an ACM reader named Sandi. She asked about what happened to Bob Garvey. He stepped back from writing abruptly about 6 months ago. I reached out to Bob and received this reply from him:

“I am touched that I’ve been missed by a reader.  When my wife had a stroke, I wrote Tom W. and told him I wanted to step back.  It was difficult to keep up my weekly commitment. It has been 6 months since the stroke and my wife has gained most of her mobility, though another problem has developed.”

I then heard again from Bob and he let me know that he is going to try to start writing for ACM starting next week. I know, for me, that is great news as Bob is an awesome writer and look forward to reading his reflections again. Thanks Sandi for being the catalyst to getting Bob back in the fold.

About the Author

Hello! My name is John Ciribassi. I live in Carol Stream, IL in the USA. My wife Elise and I are parishioners at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. We have two adult daughters. One lives in Senegal, West Africa with her husband and her 3 sons. The other teaches Anthropology at the University of Oslo, Norway. We also have a home in Mainesburg, Pa in the North Central part of Pennsylvania. My wife and I are both retired veterinarians, and my specialty is in animal behavior. I attended college and veterinary school in Illinois, where I met my wife who is from the Chicago area, and the rest is history! My hobbies include Racquetball, Pickleball, Off Road Motorcycle Riding, Hiking and Camping. I continue to enjoy the opportunity to offer what little insight I have on the scriptures. But I have always felt that the scriptures can speak for themselves. My job is just to shine a little light on them for people who maybe don't have the time to look into the readings deeply. I hope you enjoy and find value in my writings. I continue to be grateful for this opportunity.

  2. Thank you for the update John.I think all regular readers of the ACM reflections have missed Bob immensely these past few months.I’m glad to hear that his wife is doing better and will pray for her continued recovery and healing.

I have been praying for him, imagining that he might be ill, and hoping every week that he would be back. Now I will pray for his wife as well. I will be so glad to read his excellent reflections again. I wish the powers that be at ACM would have let us know what was going on.

I was hopeful for his return since no one had been filling in for him. So as you can see, Bob, many readers have been missing your Reflections. Look forward to your return.     I agree that it would’ve been nice for the ACM website to let the ACM readers know that Bob was dealing with a family health issue. Prayers for Linda.

They bring God’s word to life for us..Bob is very humble about a reader missing his reflections….I am quite certain there are thousands in that camp. Continued prayers for Bob and his family

I have been praying for him and his wife, because i just imagined that he might be ill, and hoping every week that he would be back. I am looking forward to reading his excellent reflections again. I pray for the full recovery of his wife. I suggest that those coordinating ACM would let us know what was going on in future so that we can also pray along.
