Thanks Steven for your beautiful reflection. Preparing to be unprepared sounds unreasonable whereas on the other hand it is very real because you cannot prepare for the unknown and can only prepare for what is on sight. As for the Lord Jesus Christ telling his disciples to carry nothing for the journey ahead is because what they could have carried was not necessary as God was with them to provide through the believers the preached to. God bless you Steve

Hey Steven,

I agree (and so do the Boy Scouts) with you, being prepared will help in succeeding at whatever task you are presented. That being said, today's Gospel reading may be more about protection. Sending His disciples into areas where evil is present, less is better than more. What robber would try to attack and steal from someone who has nothing? Also, they would appear relatively unassuming, not drawing any attention to themselves.

But when you get down to it, what was the mission of the disciples? Proclaim the Gospel, drive out demons and cure the sick. I don't think material possessions are needed for that. Why carry the dead weight?

Thanks Steven. With Christ we can get through anything, though it doesn't feel like it at the time of our hardship. I thank the Lord that He is so good and gentle and loving. He seems to speak to us through other people, and if I pay attention, I can be open to those graces. Thanks for writing.

Thanks Steven for reminding me of preparedness of faith when on the journey of life. This gives us the power to "walk on with hope in your heart" and you will never walk alone! Another great reflection.

Hi Steven - it's amazing how the gospel and your reflections ALWAYS seem to speak to me and my concerns. I've been given a bigger responsibility in my Church ministry and I've been agonizing about how ill equipped and unprepared I am for it. Reading your message was a big light bulb moment for me. Thanks and God bless!

Thank you so much for the reminder to not overthink everyday, to trust in the Lord and follow our faith. Often I take on the what ifs and how will I do it mode and worry to the extreme. This was a gentle push for me in the right direction. Your thoughts on all of this apply to life for any and everyone. I appreciate the reality check and the love in your message. God bless you!
