Wednesday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Extraordinary Time

Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority

over all demons and to cure diseases,

and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God

and to heal the sick.

He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey,

neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money,

and let no one take a second tunic.

Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there.

And as for those who do not welcome you,

when you leave that town,

shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.”

Then they set out and went from village to village

proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere.   Emphasis mine Luke 9:1-6

Today things are very different.  People aren’t going from village to village proclaiming the good news and curing diseases,

Or

Maybe this is happening and we’re not aware of it.

The sad news recently was the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and not knowing anything about Charlie, we decided to go on youtube and learn about him.

Charlie was an Evangelical who had dedicated his life to bring people to Jesus. In fact, I read that he had over 1.7 million Instagram readers.

Charlie didn’t avoid meeting those who oppose Jesus and Christian teaching; he went right into the lion’s den, and encouraged a dialogue with those who were anti God and anti Bible.

We have also mentioned in prior blogs of healings going on all over the world.

None of it is reported because we are too interested in promoting satan.

At a talk in England Charlie stated he thought we should observe the Sabbath and my ears perked up.

No work on Saturday, Jewish belief, Sunday, the day we chose.  The Holy Spirit whispered to me to shut off the computer and the phone (for anything but personal calls) and spend the day in prayer, and reading.   I do watch football and golf on a Sunday afternoon, but no shopping or eating out (If I’m taking the day off why should someone else have to work?).

Chick-fil-A closes on Sunday and they have over 3,000 locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico with over 200,000 Team members (Google).  Gail and I were in an airport on a Sunday and yep, Chick-fil-A was closed.

Charlie made two startling comments in his talk.

First Comment:  “People who take the Sabbath live longer.”  I googled  Do People who observe the Sabbath live a longer life?  The Answer is: there is evidence suggesting that observance of the weekly Sabbath can contribute to a Longer and Healthier life.

Two studies were noted:

The First Study:  Seventh-day Adventists: A 2005 National Geographic article highlighted the Seventh-day Adventist community in Loma Linda, California as one of the world’s “Blue Zones”—areas with a high percentage of centenarians. One of the factors identified was the practice of Sabbath observance. An earlier study found that Adventists, on average, lived 4 to 10 years longer than the average Californian.

The Second Study:  Mortality rates in Israel: A study in Israel found that deaths among Jewish adults significantly decreased on the Sabbath (Shabbat) compared to other days of the week. This effect was not seen in non-Jewish people in Israel or Jewish children.

Second Comment : A FREE man/woman takes a day off, a SLAVE works seven days a week.

I reflected back on my life and I was definitely a slave to the business, and for a time to this blog and writing our books (until two or three years ago).

No more – now I take Sunday as a day of rest and after two or three years I, yes, I look forward to my day of rest.

I am FREE!

If you don’t believe satan is in your life, try practicing a Sabbath rest and you will find satan instantly trying to get you to break the Sabbath.

Get FREE and tell satan to “get behind you and ask the Holy Spirit to come back into your life.”

And

then maybe you will set out proclaiming the good news.

Prayer:

If you want to grow in Love, Joy, and Peace this is a result of growth in Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.

Sidebar:

Richard Rohr wrote recently about power.  We are most familiar with abusive power, but I didn’t realize that The Holy Spirit is described as dynamis which means power.

Jesus said to his disciples after the Ascension that they will receive the power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them. Acts 1:8

And

Living in sustained contact with The Holy Spirit allows us to become a true, humble, and confident power.

And

This leads to a well rounded person.

And

I also believe from personal experience a life filled with Love, Joy and Peace.

Easy!

At Last God Thoughts 2024 is available at Amazon, the Hardcover $52.95 (because it is double printed to

make the pictures pop) which is outrageous, and ebook my Favorite $5.99.

You may remember that the hardcover is the same cost as a paperback so we’re only offering the Hard cover.

As we said earlier, I prefer the ebook, Hannah, my Granddaughter encouraged me to use my phone to read books and I love it.  I now have over 240 books on my phone, and I can read them any time, anywhere.

I took this picture from a vista on the road to Klingman’s Dome, the highest point in the Smokey Mountain National Park, which on a clear day will give you a view of three states.

  1. Fred
Thank you for the reminder that we are to set aside a day which “provides a weekly opportunity to cease labor, physically and spiritually recharge, and refocus one’s heart and mind on God.” Actually, we should take some time to do that EVERY day.
    Peace ✌️

  2. My brothers and I, along with our families, went to my parent’s house every Sunday for dinner. Most of the time we visited and watched golf or football. It was a nice way to enjoy the sabbath. My dad was not Catholic and my mother was not a practicing Catholic, but it was the Italian tradition. My grandparents were practicing Catholics.

  3. Great reflection as always filled with facts. We observe Sabbath in Nigeria, bit more in the late 80s according to my parents. But economic woes has driven people out of their homes, recently. Personally, I will ensure going forward to be fully present with my kids on Sundays.
    Thank you very much Fred!

  4. Jideofor, look and celebrate where you are now, a new life, a new start, all God driven. I pray we will talk next week. Peace Fred

  5. Anonymous, Gail, my wife, is Italian and had a similar tradition, and it was wonderful. Families getting together in Love is a wonderful thing. Peace Fred

  6. Jerry, I agree and this is where going to daily Mass and touching Jesus is so important for me. Peace Fred

  7. Anonymous, Thank you for your prayer of increased Peace, and I do enJoy the Sabbath. Peace Fred

  8. Yes !!! I always ‘rest’ on Sunday. No cleaning, no laundry, no work !!! Your reminder is very powerful in these times !!! Growing up, stores always closed at Noon on Saturday. Sunday was always about family. Peace to you Fred !!!
