One reason why the mention of the Holy Spirit is so sparse is historical. The great schism of 1054 splitting the Church into East and West culminated in the Roman church becoming more hierarchical, juridical and Christological. The Pnuematology was mostly forgotten. The third person of the Trinity was a Ghost! The Eastern church continued to delve deeply into the role of the Holy Spirit. The advisors from the Orthodox Church seated at Vatican 11 stated clear the lack of teaching and focus on the Holy Spirit. The Roman church had to say Mea Culpa.
