Jerry, for some reason I had to approve your comment, I don’t know why. I agree with your observations and will have to rethink what I believe, which I enjoy doing. Remember, I am not trying to game the system, I am trying to get to know and grow in a Loving relationship[ with the Triune God. We have been fed information that takes away from the Outrageous Love of the Triune God. For myself I am trying to simplify and just Love God for who God is — God! I really like the thought of me being the pearl of great price, with Jesus giving up everything to secure it. Thank you Lord Jesus, for your love and mercy.
I agree with you that God is not bound by time, but is timeless. This leads me to believe that I can say a prayer today for something or someone from the past and God will apply it to the moment it was needed.
Purgatory – how many times in Scripture do we hear that gold (and silver) are purified by fire?
Lastly, I think I see the correlation between the picture and your sidebar.
My sidebar – the “process” that produces a pearl is very interesting beginning with an “irritant” that the mollusk protects itself against.

I suspect the concept of ‘Purgatory’ is unclear to most of us. A good starting point may be to suggest that (1) it is not a physical place nor is it delineated by time; and (2) God wants us to be fit for his kingdom and so prepares us not punishes us.
