Wednesday, July 30, I will be with you;

I don’t know the name of the flowers and Micheal didn’t leave a comment

Our Blog is Inspired by The Holy Spirit

We are in the  Seventeenth Week in Extraordinary Time

The reading is from Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Extraordinary Time

Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian.

Leading the flock across the desert, he came to Horeb,

the mountain of God.

There an angel of the LORD appeared to him in fire

flaming out of a bush.

As he looked on, he was surprised to see that the bush,

though on fire, was not consumed.

So Moses decided,

“I must go over to look at this remarkable sight,

and see why the bush is not burned.”

When the LORD saw him coming over to look at it more closely,

God called out to him from the bush, “Moses! Moses!”

He answered, “Here I am.”

God said, “Come no nearer!

Remove the sandals from your feet,

for the place where you stand is holy ground.

I am the God of your father,” he continued,

“the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.

The cry of the children of Israel has reached me,

and I have truly noted that the Egyptians are oppressing them.

Come, now! I will send you to Pharaoh to lead my people,

the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”

But Moses said to God,

“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh

and lead the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

He answered, “I will be with you;

and this shall be your proof that it is I who have sent you:

when you bring my people out of Egypt,

you will worship God on this very mountain.”

Emphasis mine Exodus 3:1-6, 9-12

I  realize this may be confusing, but I just learned two things from Tim Gray of The Formed and we had to pass them on.

One:  Remove the sandals from your feet,

Why?

Tim said, and I just Googled, there are 200,000 nerve endings on the bottom of our feet, making your feet one of the most sensitive parts of your body.

When God asked Moses to remove his sandals, it was because Moses was standing on Holy Ground, and his sandals acted as a barrier between God and Moses.

Once you learn this it’s very obvious.

Jesus when he was Crucified, was bare footed, and I now think that is because his Cross was planted on Holy

Ground.  Jesus by being Crucified at this spot made the ground Holy.

Two:  I will be with you;  God asks Moses  to go and free the Jewish people being enslaved by the Egyptians, and Moses responds, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and lead the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

This is where Dr. Gray got me thinking, God asks Moses to do something, Moses doesn’t say, “Great, I can’t wait, let’s go,”  No Moses starts backing out, and we will show in the rest of the blog, Moses also states  why he can’t do what is being asked.

Chapter 4: 1 “But,” objected Moses, “suppose they do not believe me or listen to me? For they may say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’”

God shows Moses signs, and  tells him of signs he will do.

Exodus 4: 10  Moses, however, said to the Lord, “If you please, my Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor now that you have spoken to your servant; but I am slow of speech and tongue.”

Exodus 4 :11-12  The Lord said to him: Who gives one person speech? Who makes another mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?  Now go, I will assist you in speaking and teach you what you are to say.

Exodus 4: 13  But he said, “If you please, my Lord, send someone else!”

I will be with you, Dr. Gray pointed out the power of these words, and I believe everyone reading our blog has experienced a Moses moment, where God asked us to do something and we started backpeddling.

We wanted to show the full dialog, because if you go to Daily Mass this will  be read  over a number of days and if you are like me you may forget the previous day’s reading.

I will be with you, this is a power statement which can apply to all of us if we are willing to stop doing our will, and start doing the will of our Father.

As we have reported a number of times, writing the Wednesday Blog was NOT on my bucket list before I died.  And when The Holy Spirit suggested we apply for the position to write our blog, I said, “NO!”, and I gave The Holy Spirit reasons just like Moses, but The Holy Spirit like God with Mose wouldn’t listen.

We sent in a sample of our writing, which I have read years later, and it was weak, but we were selected.

Writing our Blog and meeting many of you through your comments, pictures, and requests for Cards, has filled my life with Joy.

I also believe that I am not alone and that many of you have had a Moses moment, and the key is that I will not leave you alone.

Prayer:

If you want to grow in Love, Joy, and Peace this is a result of growth in Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.

Sidebar:

We are writing our Blog a week earlier because Mike, and Cindy are coming up to spend a week with Family and Friends.

When any of our sons, wives, grandchildren, or their friends come up it’s always a time of anticipation, preparation, and enJoyment.

You may be wondering about their “friends”.  Brenna, our granddaughter, brought two exchange students from France up to Maine and Gail and I ran them ragged.  Just before they left, one of the Girls said, “When Brenna said that we were going to her Grandparents, I thought this would be a bust,  all I can say is you two are awesome.”

Gail and I worked very hard to entertain them, and they appreciated it.

For Gail and I life is easy, God comes first, then family.

I am writing my autobiography, and I can’t believe all we did when the boys were home under our care.  Some might say, we did too much.  I would disagree, and I believe we are writing this autobiography for future generations, the effort is well worth it.  You will have no idea how later in life your efforts could produce a lot of Love, Joy, and Peace in future generations.

Well, I or I should say we ran out of thoughts, which is interesting because during the week I have hundreds of thoughts that I, yes, I think will be of interest, but not this week, so far.

I just received a Comment in the A Catholic Moment web page, that said we should comment on.

In one bible translation I have, it uses the word trust in place of faith. And Jesus’s said the goats were sent to hell because they didn’t feed the hungry etc. As James says, true faith leads us to good works, but the works are not what saves us.  Helen

Helen I think has a very valid point, and I, yes, I have been thinking about this over the past three months..  The best example if you read the NABRE revised in  2016

Our Father in heaven,

    hallowed be your name,

    your kingdom come,

    your will be done,

        on earth as in heaven.

    Give us today our daily bread;

    and forgive us our debts,

        as we forgive our debtors;

and do not subject us to the final test,

but deliver us from the evil one.

If you read the New King James Version – I couldn’t get the NAB ( New American Bible)

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

This is one of the reasons I have and will read different Bibles just to get a broader view of what God wants.

Helen, I love your version, and see God took care of me, I didn’t like the sidebar until now.

Now I believe we have added some meat to the bones.

  1. Thank you Fred. Always enjoy your reflections and blog. Peace with you and Gail.

  2. The flowers are crocus. Thank you for answering the call of the Holy Spirit. Do you know if the Tuesday/Sunday writer is ok?

  3. Thank you for the reflection Fred. I think we can all be like Moses at times when we think “who am I.” When my 103 year old mother brushes her hair, she always gives the brush back to me and says “I couldn’t reach the top”. I ask her why and she responds, “my arms are too short.” That conversation always gets me to thinking of how many times God has asked something of me and I’ve responded, “can’t do it, my arms are too short.”
    Peace ✌️

  4. Jerry, what a powerful comment, thank you for the comment and the Peace. Peace Fred

  8. Thanks for answering the call and continuing to write here. I remember the powerful the words “I am with you” throughout the day as I face challenges. The Fruit of the Holy Spirit Prayers is a daily must for me, said often throughout the day. Like you, I read other versions of the bible and find a lot on-line at biblegateway My favorite there is “The Voice”.
