Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom

and cured every disease among the people

Emphasis and underline mine  Matthew 4:23

We were reading the bible the other day, and the passage we were reading said Jesus cured every disease.

The Holy Spirit encouraged me to consider the words every disease.

Let’s just say Jesus couldn’t cure a particular disease, then I am sure as I am sitting here there would be many who would say Jesus wasn’t God, because God would cure every disease.

The Muslims claim Jesus didn’t die on the cross, that to me is even more outrageous when you consider all the facts.

The Romans crucified Jesus and they didn’t tolerate anyone who didn’t do as they were told.

In The Acts of the Apostles, chapter 12, Herod has Peter put in prison in double chains with four squads making sure he would be there the next day.

An Angel frees Peter, and Herod, after instituting a search but not finding him, ordered the guards tried and executed.  Acts 12:19

Last week I really started to believe that the God who we worship is in fact a God of surprises in every way.

The Joy is knowing God is active in your life all of the time, and realizing God is actively working in your life now.

And

This is why it is important to know deep down in your heart that Jesus cured every disease, the chains that held Peter at the command of the Angel to “Get up quickly,” fell to the floor.

For nothing is impossible for your Father, Brother, and their Holy Spirit.

Prayer:

If you want to grow in Love, Joy and Peace, this is a result of growth in Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.

Sidebar:

We want to continue with the thought that we worship a God of Surprises.

Yesterday, I came home, parked the car in the drivway, turned it off, thought of something I wanted to do, tried to start the car and it wouldn’t start.

I went inside to get another set of keys, and by mistake picked up the keys for Gail’s car (it’s the same make and model)  I still couldn’t start the car.

I thought it was the battery, called AAA and arranged for them to come out.

Gail arrived home and saw the mistake I, yes, I had made, I got my keys and the car started up, and yes I prayed “Thank you, Thank you, Thank You Father.”

OK Fred where is the surprise?

This all happened in my DRIVEWAY.  Psalm 91 working in our life.  The Joy was knowing this all happened in my DRIVEWAY, and knowing and appreciating God had and has my back.

I had gone to church, came back from church, and the car didn’t start in our DRIVEWAY after I arrived home.

By comparison, in my youth I would have cursed out my bad luck, stormed into the house, and been miserable.

I, yes I love my new found life, and as we have stated I will never go back to the person I was.  That person died, thank God!

The second story of a God surprise we are asking our oldest son Mike, to tell, so this part of the Blog will be written by him:

Mike,

Last Saturday I was playing golf with four other friends in a game called “skins” where the best individual score of a hole wins the “skin”, otherwise, the “skin” carries over to the next hole, continuing until a hole is won outright.  On the sixth hole we had six skins because no one had won a previous hole outright.  After several good drives into the fairway on a par four, my friend Wyatt (who owns a newspaper in Jackson, MS) made his 70 yard shot from the fairway for an Eagle (a score of 2 on a par 4).  This is very rare and Wyatt was hand pumping and celebrating all the “skins” he was going to win.  However, because I now play golf with an invitation to the Triune God to join me, I was at peace with Wyatt’s moment of joy, but not discouraged or disappointed (years ago, without playing with the Triune God, I would have been angry and jealous to lose a hole and watch others celebrate over my loss).   I simply said to Wyatt, “the hole is not over, I still have a shot”.  Then, swinging my wedge from 62 yards out, holed my shot for an eagle – two.  The eruption of emotion from the other golfers that moment was hilarious (probably because the hole pushed and no skins won).  Two eagle shots from the fairway within 1 minute apart to tie a hole was at least a 1 in 3 million chance according to google.  I quickly said “thank you Father” as we moved on to the next hole.  God’s joy remained throughout the round, and into the next couple of days as Wyatt immediately wrote an article online about the experience.  I was ushering at church the next morning and it was amazing how many people read the article and said congratulations to me on their way in.   God also taught me humility that day.  On the eighth hole, the highest handicapped golfer (polite way of saying worst) in our group made a 25 foot putt to win 8 skins.

And the last surprise was all this happened within days of each event, Mike on Saturday, me on Monday

So why these three stories you may be asking?

We started this blog about Jesus curing EVERY disease, and we are ending this blog demonstrating that God is doing far more in your life than curing every disease.  The challenge is your asking God and seeing God active in your life.

Because when you do,

You, as Mike and I just experienced, will be filled with Joy!

  1. Great reflection and thanks for the reminder to see God all around us in the busyness of life.

  2. Thank you Mr Prince for sharing your life stories that changed you and strengthened your faith in God. May the Peace of Christ be with you.

  3. Thank you for the reflection Fred. God is amazing. Your highlighted verse was so timely. I quickly copied, pasted and sent a text of Mt 4:23 to my buddy Joel who is meeting with his team of doctors today to discuss a plan of treatment as he was recently diagnosed with cancer.
    Peace

  4. Fred – Thank you. I am an avid golfer and enjoyed reading about your son’s recent golf experience. I have never made an eagle before. Heck, I have enough trouble making a birdie! God bless!

  5. Coincidentally, I was reading a book about the birth of Jesus to my 2-year old daughter. After each section, I said, Surprise Surprise and she responded Surprise. Indeed, our God is a God of Surprises.
    Wonderful reflection!
