Hey Anonymous,

Today's Gospel reading is interesting from many aspects.
A few of them are that it is a woman who approaches Jesus, she is a Canaanite, the harsh words Jesus used to describe her and, lastly, Jesus response ("Let it be done as you wish." Notice Jesus doesn't say as that it what He wishes.).
But my point is God doesn't seem to have a great love of the Canaanites. Love thy neighbor doesn't seem to apply to them.

Again, just my two cents.

Hey Mark this is a great reflection we work on it everyday. Jesus came first to the Jews then to the gentiles, Why do you think Jesus called the gentile (I mean Caananite woman) great is your faith at the point in time Jesus was in his first to the Jews portion of his mission placing an eye on the future was God the Father telling his son yes we are here but we shall be going here so be ready son. But I appreciate your cynicism because it challenges me to reflect more deeply on the "LIVING WORD OF GOD" People as far as working on ourselves always and everywhere humbly ask the consubstantial indwelling Holy Spirit to help you with your sin nature that is pulling you away from the important things of God and as Saint Timothy tells us in his books. "Train yourselves in Godliness" God bless you all back to training for me now heahr!!

Hey Steven,

Looking at it from a different viewpoint, your reflection revolves around Canaanites. Going through scripture, it's not hard to see that God and the Jewish nation aren't particularly fond of the Canaanites. In Deuteronomy, chapter 7 begins with the Destruction of the Nations in the Land, which list the Canaanites as one of the seven nations that the Jewish people are to conquer. God is also very specific on the way the Jewish people are to treat them after they are defeated, which is, in a nutshell, keep away from the Canaanites. This subtle type of racism continues through the New Testament, as seen in today's Gospel reading.

I guess my question to you is, where are the Canaanites today? They seem to have disappeared. They are kind of like an ingredient that you can't find to complete your recipe.

Ha, loved your reflections, especially as I too grew up in a camping family. If we dropped or burnt food, I'm afraid we ate it anyway! But on the reflection about trusting God, I have found that is something I have to re-learn every day, sometimes a few times a day, in spite of also having experienced miracles. Never thought of it the other way around, though, as in the Canaanite woman. Wow, that's something to think about! Thank you!
