Amen to John Ciribassi!
Mary, your thoughts today were God speaking to me! You make a great amplifier! Also, I'd love for you to lead a week long or month long retreat in all the points you made today. It is packed with great stuff. Maybe I'm meant to go back to teaching!?! Thank you so very much!

Gabriel
The priest who is the vocations director at our diocese in Joliet, Illinois, USA discussed this today. This is what he said:
"I believe that God gives each one of us special gifts and talents. When we use these gifts and talents for God’s greater glory, the Lord blesses us with even more gifts to be given away. We become like a clearing house of God’s blessings. The Lord floods us with grace and as long as we continue to pour it out for others, He gives us more and more.

The opposite is true also. When we either don’t use our gifts at all or use them for selfish purposes, the Lord takes them away and gives them to someone who will use them for His glory."

I think sometimes we ignore the talents we have and try to use talents we would like to have or maybe talents we think the world would admire more. We waste the strengths we have and, in a sense, they are taken away since they are not put to good use. I think the Lord is telling us to take an honest look at the gifts we are given and use them to work in the Kingdom.
I am struggling with this now. I have gifts as a veterinarian that I have used all my working life, but am getting a bit burned out after many years so am thinking of going in a different direction. But I think I can do more good as a vet. It is my strength. But is there another strength I have not yet realized.

No one said this stuff was going to be easy. :)

Today's reflection was at once informative and inspirational. It goes a long way toward explaining the reading from Daniel - the bridge between the reading from Exodus and the reading from Matthew, as well tenets of the Catholic faith. Like many of the readings I find here, it is one that should be shared with Catholics and non-Catholics alike. Thank you.
