It is my prayer that this isn’t the same thing as resisting the temptation to leave an abusive marriage—where one’s definition of love is making the other partner miserable and causing emotional, and sometimes physical, illness. I have seen first-hand the daily emotional abuse that is served from one spouse to the next. It’s hard to fathom peace when you’ve grown up conditioned to just “live with it”, good or evil.

It’s the same argument the atheists have. Why does God allow suffering? Especially natural disasters and large-scale persecution. You answered in your reflection simply, that that is the wrong question to ask. That it is not the point. What we all want is not the absence of suffering, but the sometimes elusive internal Peace. We know it exists, because we have seen it dwell in those people God has put in our paths of life. You have outlined that relationship with Jesus is where we start, and where run to, each and every day. I am learning to do this, and even in times of conflict in my marriage, I have felt His Peace. It has led me out of the ‘getting even’ mentality and back into working together. Thank you for doing God’s work.
