These difficult issues pull us in so many ways. We are right to comfort the stranger, but to go from a foreign war torn or poverty stricken area to the inner city of one of our large American cities isn't much of a step up - though better health care. There are areas of great poverty in our cities, some of our rural areas and Native American reservations - what to do? How to help people achieve a life with dignity, a hand up and not just a handout which can make a person feel worthless if ongoing. I agree with a need to protect our borders, yet donate to the Catholic Worker House which houses immigrants, some probably illegal. These complex problems are so difficult that I have not been able to cheer or blame any administration past or present for not being able to find an answer.

One thing I noticed about the Gospels - Jesus teaches about how we should treat each other, not how to take down the Roman Empire. I think countries transform from within - by each individual becoming the person God meant us to be - first by being a person people can count on, then by being a peacemaker in our families - only when we have grown this much in wisdom can we reach out to the larger community with truly loving, non-judgmental, and caring attitude. I believe that suffering exist in the world in part because it drives us to learn to truly care, put aside our own selfish wants, and help others. I am at least thankful to live in a country where I have the freedom to try to grow in spiritual wisdom.

Glory to Jesus...
Honor to Mary..
Enjoyed &admire your writings today...
Like you ...am a converted Catholic. ..&i am strongly praying i die one...cos Catholicism gives me peace of mind to worship my God &useful to others..
As per ROE VS WADE..
I wish we can start encouraging our family /parental values to change with bringing up our kids &wards towards sexual relationships..
If we teach our youths to abstain &'zip up' ..there would be less unplanned pregnancies &abortion clinics would eventually fold up...making ROE/WADE..to die a natural death..
May God help us all..

Again, I am so moved by your reflection Mary. Catholicism has never been stagnant. Look toward most Religious Orders to find The Way. I believe the Holy Spirit is moving me and many others in that direction. My prayer these days is to find, as a nation, a Christ- centered moral compass. AMEN!

Hey Mary,

Something clicked in my head when I was completing my morning run. Doesn't today's Gospel reading, at least in some way, contradict Mt 12:22 - 32 and especially Mk 9:38 - 41?

I'm tired. I've written letters, attended marches, directly spoken to people, some politicians and the attacks on sacred human life are increasingly getting more atrocious. In Canada we have no abortion law and the LGBTQ community has much of the political power. Our schools, even Catholic, by law, must have LGBTQ support groups. This was all foretold as fallout in Humanae Vitae. Please pray for the holy spirit to continue to give us strength, guidance and perseverance.

Thank you, Mary. I never realized that Jesus was talking about troubles and evil when speaking of the floods and winds. So many believe that just believing Jesus is the son of God is sufficient; they fail to get to know Him. Your reflections help me so much in getting to know Him better and understanding His message. May the Lord have mercy on us as a nation.

Thank you, Mary. I pray all day long for our country and for our elected officials. I have come to the point of laying my fears concerning the future of the USA at Our Saviors’s feet. I know that prayer is a start and additionally pray that I my hear God’s call to action.
