Source: Catholic Radio Network

The Catholic Bishop of Tambura-Yambio Diocese has acknowledged the presence of peace among South Sudanese citizens in Juba. According to news report from Radio Anisa, Rt. Rev. Eduardo Hiiboro Kusala, Bishop of Tambura-Yambio said that there are no much gunshots heard and no hate speech used in Juba.

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir signed a peace agreement with opposition factions in the Ethiopian Capital recently to end the civil war that has claimed many lives and displaced dozen to the neighbouring countries. The Bishop who is also the President of Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference was quoted as saying that the silence of guns in Juba shows that people are slowly picking up with peace reconciliation process.

Bishop Hiiboro who was in Juba to preside over the graduation ceremony of over 380 students of South Sudan Catholic University urged people to continue praying for lasting peace in the country. He encouraged prayers among Christians, especially for those who lost their beloved ones during the conflict.

Elsewhere, the Catholic Bishop of Yei Rt. Rev. Erkolano Lodu Tombe has asked Government to allow religious leaders to mediate and find out the grievances of armed groups.

According to Radio East news report, Bishop Erkolano said that the priority of religious leaders is to meet with the armed groups either together or as individuals in order to have productive dialogue.

The Catholic prelate believes that people are tired of the word peace without assurance of security in the country. His concern is the number of armed groups in the bushes and where their loyalty lies, which he feels is an issue of great concern.
