Thanks Joe for this very inspiring reflection. It has reminded me of the various pains I have gone through and how each time the pain struck I could turn to the Bible and get a verse to read and my peace would come back even as I was going through pain. It reminds me of a dream that came to me one night that a close friend of mine had died. I was very much disturbed and then decided to pray about the issue and so prayed that God may reveal the illness that would lead to death and sure after a few weeks the person got sick and he was treated and is well.
God bless you Joe for your great writings and enable you to continue doing so. Thanks

Joe. Thank you for your lovely reflection. Interestingly, a friend of mine, a good Baptist man, and I had a conversation this past Friday night about whether God lets bad things happen in the world and how he uses those pains and sufferings for a greater purpose.

As I read your reflection, I could not help but think about that conversation and how you so well captured a lot of what we talked about -- so much so that I had to share your wonderful and articulate reflection with him.

Thank you for your service and may God continue to bless you.

Thank you, Joe! One of your best reflections yet, and yours are usually my favourites in the week.

"Sometimes we have to sacrifice, sometimes we are the sacrifice." I first read these words on this website, and I'm thinking that it was from you, because you used them now. Very profound reflection that those words were in, and the concept became a game changer, to use your words, for me.

I suffer from chronic pain, and through the reflections here, Living Faith, homilies at Mass, and, of course, Scriptures themselves, I have become grateful for my pain. It has allowed me to ponder the nature of suffering, and God used it as a means for intense spiritual growth for me, and I got closer to Him. I experienced, and still do, God's peace, even with the pain. I doubt that I would have had such intense spiritual growth were it not for the pain that, at first, I was so angry and in despair about.

Fabulous reflection Joe, thank you! Do not be afraid, just have faith. I really love this, but struggle so much with it. My faith is very deep yet I still get so afraid. I cannot make any sense of it. Jesus is everything to me and I love and trust him so much.. Still I'm afraid. I do offer it up to him. I am as he made me I guess. Anyway he is such our awesome wonderful God!
Please say a prayer for me.
God bless you always.

Joe,
Very nice reflection - thank you.

I have a question for you. With all the "marvels of modern medicine" over the past 100 years ( 50 years ago id surely be dead) .at what point can one refuse medical treatment to extend ones life? Note: I said extend not save. I'm entering my golden years and have been hit by an illness that has left me home bound almost totally dependent on my wife. Any more infections could end my life without antibiotics. What to do - what to do? Any litature you could recommend that could help me to better understand. Thanks in advance.

There is so much in todays Gospel. Thanks for the summary and reminders of how faith trumps everything. Jesus always recognized the faithful and the good things that come from genuine faith. Thank you Joe
