The healing of the man born blind by Jesus Christ in the Gospel of St. John 9:1-41 is for us to recognize our spiritual blindness and seek His help so that, set free from our blindness, we can see things as they are, and attain the eternal life He won for us.

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endures for ever (1 Chronicles 16:34).

This quote is my favorite and I have carried it with me (literally on a card) through many years and many trials. My son, whom I lost a few years ago, and I talked often about this aspect of God, being outside of time and seeing us past, present, and future Simultaneously as you suggested. This truth changed my view of life’s struggles, our failures, and those things we don’t understand. God knows the ending to our story (on earth) just as He knew the beginning and He has promised that “He is working (has already worked) everything together for good.” And that ‘good’ will never end but rather continue on in eternity with Him. It’s ‘all’ been planned in God’s mind and heart forever! My privilege now is to grow in trust and comprehension of that truth as I get to know Him more and to “make it my one ambition to please Him.” Merton”s quote always inspires me to take a deep breath and relax, grateful for our loving God who “was and is and shall forever be”.
