Joy,
I was right there with you as I was reading Laura’s meditation for today. Although, I have one caveat to add. I too am incensed by those who do not seem to take into account the specifics as to why people are fleeing to the USA. Unfortunately, those who are showing intolerance and greed concerning the plight of these asylum seekers do not espouse the stance of The Catholic Church nor the US Bishops. It angers and disappoints me when I hear angry, intolerant rhetoric from individuals or groups associated with our church and I feel that it causes many to assume that these are our church’s teachings. It is not. These voices have hijacked the the truth. This is not the 1st nor last time others will take religious truth and twist it. I guess it makes it even more important that those who know the truth of God’s mercy, speak it and show it. I daily have to remind myself to have mercy and forgiveness for those who espouse these views just as I would like all people to show mercy towards the migrants attempting to find safety.
I must trust in God and pray that compassion and mercy overshadow the desire for greed and ego.

Laura, I enjoyed your reflection very much, I almost felt as I were with you. I never experienced time by the ocean and the beauty of the sights and sound. However, I have wonderful memories of being with my family floating down a river, out on a lake, and reunions at a cabin out in the "boonies" with all its beauty and serenity. I have always felt so blessed at our families get together especially knowing that in time there would be empty seats around our tables (those who passed into the next life). As I write this, I'm flooded with many wonderful memories.
Hope you have a great rest of your mini vacation and have a safe journey home.

Truly inspirational. You have chosen to share your blessing with someone less fortunate. The blessing will extend far beyond the vacation, both to your family and the person you included. Imagine the love and hope she must be feeling as a result.

Your REFLECTIONS is so refreshing &promising..
But i ask myself ...ARE CATHOLICS AMONGST THOSE PREVENTING IMMIGRANTS COMING TO USA...
IF SO..THEY. NEED TO GO OVER TODAY'S READINGS...
MANY IMMIGRANTS COME HERE NOT TO TAKE OVER THE LAND BUT TO BE THEIR "BROTHER'S KEEPER" BACK HOME...
MANY FLED...FLEEING...WISH TO FLEE...COS OF INSECURITY...NO JOB...POVERTY..ABUSE...EVEN CHANCE TO WORSHIP THEIR GOD...
YET OUR SO CALLED CHRISTIANS...EVANGELICALS ...CATHOLICS ...etc. ARE AMONGST THOSE MAKING IT TOUGH FOR IMMIGRANTS TO BE THEIR BROTHER'S KEEPERS..
LET'S REMEMBER D WALLS OF JERICHO FELL WITH PRAYERS & FAITH WITHIN 7DAYS..
THEN WHY BUILDING A WALL THAT GOD CAN MAKE FALL AGAIN..
TODAY'S READINGS WANTS YOU TO HELP US IMMIGRANTS TO ESTABLISH PEACE ...SECURITY..PERSECITION OF OUR CORRUPT POLITICAL LEADERS TO DO RIGHT WITH THEIR CITIZENRY SO THEY WOULD STOP FLEEING THEIR COUNTRIES..
BUT MEANWHILE ..WITH TODAY'S READINGS..BE MERCIFUL UNTO US..
WE SINCERELY NEED IT..NOT ALL OF US ARE ROGUES...DRUG DEALERS OR RAPISTS...
MAY GOD ASSIST US ALL TO WALK THIS TIGHT ROPE..
PLS REMEMBER MY BIRTH COUNTRY NIGERIA IN YOUR PRAYERS THIS WEEK..
WE REALLY NEED IT..

I read acatholic every day, you are doing a great job, it's simply beautiful and necessary for us to understand and live the scriptures. The message the Bible gives is different and beautiful everyday, and to make a better understanding of it is very necessary, God bless you all, this site is really a gift for me from God. THANK YOU ALL!

I know what you mean Laura! I'm getting ready for my vacation soon. The day I picked my travel package I saw a homeless man in the middle of the street on a cold, snowy day knocking on the windows of cars begging for money. I felt a twinge of guilt, here I was all excited about my get-away from the frigid temperatures, and here was a man lightly clad begging. I dug into my pocket to find some change wondering how it could possibly help.

Yes, the beatitudes strike at the heart. But, it occurred to me that Jesus ate and drank with wealthy men like Zaccacheus. I don't think he was offended by someone's wealth, it's how one achieves wealth, and what one does with it. We all work hard for what we have, and we are allowed some pleasures that come with it. I'm going to assume most of us support our Churches, give to charity, help a friend, relative, neighbour or homeless on the street.

Monday is Family Day in Canada which gives people a long weekend to enjoy. Most families will be doing just that. Have a great weekend and enjoy your vacation.

God bless.
