Thank you, John. That reading always bothered me for the reasons you mentioned. Thank you for clearing it up. I am also from an Italian family and have many memories of the Sunday gatherings at my grandparents house and then at my parents while our children were growing up. Though no board of education there.

Certainly no disrespect on the part of Jesus. It’s obvious he loved his Mother…Blessed is she who comes in the name of the Lord. Great family story…good lessons learned out back at the shed. Peace with you Mr John.

I use to have trouble with this gospel when I was a young man. I hurt my mother’s feels on time, and I wish I could have taken it back and swap it for a trip to the wood shed.
Isn’t that like what the secular world calls child abuse now days? That’s a crying shame (pun intended).
