Thank you John, I am married to a wandering believer, who at times can be pretty proud and haughty about God. I worry about him also. Then when I think about it, I am probably proud and haughty in my own way about God. None of us know the mind of God, who He will allow to enter heaven. All we can do is pray and trust in His mercy.

A very personal story. Salvation must be more than legalism: what about the people who died long before Jesus’s time, and those today in foreign lands. And yet only Jesus is the Way. We can only trust in his grace & mercy, and God’s love for all. There is probably an answer which we do not know. In the meantime we must cultivate our own garden and try to live in the Beatitudes.

Thank you, John, for this informative reflection. As a child who was erronrously taught that only Catholics will go to heaven, I have come to believe that God loves everyone and everything that He created, and all persons will have a chance to believe in Him and enter heaven. As Frank Sheed wrote, “There is no place in hell for even the smallest flickering of love.”
