John - Thank you very much for your reflection. As I read the first reading this morning, I could not help but think about why Paul wanted Timothy to be circumcised when it had been decided that circumcision was no longer a requirement. I was very confused by that and did not remember previously reading today's reading. As such, your commentary afterwards was very helpful.

I, too, enjoy the Book of Acts during the Easter season and have been planning on reading the entire Book (as well as reading the entire Bible). NBC had a TV show called, “A.D.: The Bible Continues”, five years ago that it cancelled after one season. The show was unique because it focused on Jesus' resurrection and the Book of Acts. I enjoyed it and was heartbroken that it was cancelled! The producers, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey (also behind "Bible" and "Messiah") planned on reviving it elsewhere, but I have not seen any news about that since.

Chris - Interesting comments on the custom in Ireland of blessing yourselves whenever you pass a church or cemetery. I have seen that done in Moscow, Russia. My brother-in-law, who is Russian Orthodox, does that every time he drives past a church -- I noticed that during my last few visits there. Based on your comments, it seems that this could well be a very old custom going back to the early church and before the Great Schism. I am going to have to look into that.

Blessings.

Many Thanks John for todays reflection. It's difficult to be a proud and humble Christian in our culture. Our Love for God and Jesus seems to have to be sheltered as not to offend anyone. Lift high the cross gently and respectfully and we just might win a few "haters".✝️

Thank you, John I was wondering about every part you addressed, and thank you, Chris for the interesting comments. My Irish aunt used to do bless herself when she passed a church, I will try to do that too.

Thank you for your reflection. We had, still have really, the custom in Ireland of blessing ourselves whenever we pass a church or cemetery. When I was younger, everyone was doing that, so there was nothing daring about doing the same. Now, I find it easy to carry on, knowing that most people will excuse it, so to speak, on the grounds that I'm a pensioner. Between young and old, there was a brief time when I did think twice, but I learned to remember, any one who doesn't like my faith expressions, that's their problem not mine. Funny incident: giving a young colleague a lift home one evening, I blessed myself as we passed the Church, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw her hurriedly doing the same. Made me smile, and maybe more? God bless you all.

John, thanks for this reflection. I find it enriching, particularly regarding the explanations of the context then and now... challenging our current disposition notwithstanding. God bless you.
