Hey Dr John,

If we look back at important people in history, they all left something behind. Writings, statues, buildings, artwork, music, poetry....something physical. Christ left something different. It’s not physical, nothing hard that we can grasp.

He left the Church.

And what’s even more unusual is who He left “in charge,” the one who denied Him 3 times.

Yes, men and women, who are fallible, run around trying to keep order as best they can of Jesus’ treasure that He left behind. The fact that the Church is still here after 2000 years of “us” pretty much shows that there is a divine hand at keeping it alive and functioning.

From a post I read a week ago:

As Hilaire Belloc famously, though also facetiously put it:

“The Catholic Church is an institution I am bound to hold divine – but for unbelievers a proof of its divinity might be found in the fact that no merely human institution conducted with such knavish imbecility would have lasted a fortnight.”

Yep, I agree, without God’s divine intervention throughout the years, the Church would have failed a long time ago.

Many Thanks John for the information on the Papacy and some history that goes along with it. It is fun understanding more about Catholicism and how the Church operates as one body. Thanks for sharing.
