I agree that ultimately our children, and ourselves, belong to God and we should not be of the world. But we are IN the world until we get home again. In the meantime we function in the world and hopefully bring the word of God to those we interact with. Also they will be a part of the world after we are gone and we hope we prepare them well to survive and thrive during their time here.

John, you said that our children belong to Gid and the world. No, not the world! To God alone! It is in baptizing them and instilling the Christian faith in them that we pull them out of this world.

I don’t know official theology about this (this is where Mary Ortwein comes in!), but I am working on taking my child out of this world and consecrating my child to God. Not like Hannah, of course, I still live with my child, and, God willing, I will raise my child to adulthood, but still…

The ways of the Lord are not the ways of the world. I want my child to follow the ways of the Lord.
