Karen, Boy Wonder is actually very much a literalist! Isn't that funny? He takes after my mom when it comes to God. In fact when he listens to me, he says "You think too much!" Maria, I don't know what happened to your comment. Would have loved to have seen it. Thank you all for your good wishes!

Hey Julie,

I'm impressed that you run 10 miles every Friday morning. You are definitely more dedicated than I.

I've commented about money before, so I won't repeat myself.

As for time and religion, try reading "Leisure, the Basis of Culture" by Josef Pieper. I think you'll be surprised. It would be great to read in a library, you will need to concentrate a bit when you read it. Heavy on philosophy.

There are a lot of sacrifices with children, there are a lot of sleepless nights and heartaches with grown adult children. I have a 29 year old Asperger/Bipolar son who has traveled all over the world, earned a Master's degree and is presently writing a proposal for a Ph.D. There have been many trips to the hospital, dark days and frantic interventions (the driving thing ended for me when we almost ended up in a ditch!) The point is you keep praying...to Our Lady, St. Dymphna and give the stress, worry and heartache to Jesus or you'll be in the ditch! My son lives life from a different perspective and it is quirky! The journey is challenging and at times lonely...the psychological pain of watching as a parent brings me to the Blessed Virgin Mary on my knees...for grace to persevere...we stand by/ with and watch as she witnessed Jesus being tormented! It is such a mystery...we pray acnd hope as our Asperger adult children try to find their place in the world. Jesus' crown of thorns -his mental anguish in the Garden ...one day all the perplexity and suffering offered will be recognized for the pool of grace we were swimming in all the time! Prayers and Blessings for all parents of Asperger/Autistic and children with Mental health challenges! Amen!

Julie, as I sat here worrying about my adult son with Aspergers I read this. Mine has graduated and is living independently quite far away but still struggles with social interactions. Wondering if your son struggles with the concept of God. My son can't wrap his head around this as there "is no proof" according to him. It doesn't make sense to him therefore he doesn't believe. This is something I pray about constantly
