The action of Mathew in my thoughts is yet one of the mysteries of our faith.Just like
1)Abraham leaving ancestral land to a promised

2)Mother Mary accepting to carry a mysterious pregnancy and many others

Today I see mysteries of our priests and Nuns going against the grains and choosing celibacy..Faith is just faith.. believing without questioning

A thought provoking reflection Julie, thank you.You provide a very interesting take on today’s gospel reading. I identify with many of your traits and wonder if I would have followed Jesus with the Matthew’s certainty as illustrated. I think I would have asked my coworkers what they thought about this man Jesus, but I do believe that Matthew’s heart was touched by God that day, hence his decisive actions.

I agree with William. Watch "The Chosen" on utube. Best story I've ever seen about Jesus. The writers don't claim that the story follows time lines as the Bible or that it totally accurate but it sure makes it more understandable. Probably the best TV series I've ever seen. Iam a "fan" and look forward to season 2.

interesting interpretation. I do think Levi (Matthew) had such clarity that he left everything to follow Jesus. Saint Ignatius uses the phrase "follow me" when he describes his experience with the clarity he felt. I don't think it's brainless; it's faith.

I have to agree with Anonymous about Jesus reputation preceding Him. Can you imagine no printed paper or tv news or internet only word of mouth. And of course going to see/ hear/ witness healings for yourself. Loved this whole "Ignatian" writing.
