Just wanted to say that I agree 100% with all of you. You echo my sentiments exactly. I’m just concerned our country could erupt into a civil war. The state that I live in (on the west coast) has had a lot of violent demonstrations, with millions of dollars in property damage and even some riots and fighting in our streets. Rather than go to war with each other, I just think it wouldn’t hurt to try talking to each other and try to find some acceptable solutions. A secular society doesn’t have the same values as Christian communities, but we still need to find a way to live together.

I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

I must say, a very thought provoking reflection.

Just a couple of notes.

First, in my humble opinion, politics, when it affect the Catholic religion, does belong in the church. I feel it would be the priests duty to inform the congregation on the position of the church on certain issues ( Ez 33 1:9 may be used as a reference ). Although there isn’t a political party that follows all Catholic doctrine, some are more closely aligned.

Second, compromise with intrinsic evil should never be tolerated. The Church does have very strict guidelines that must always be followed.
