I am 71 and to Eleazar I would be a youngster, but the message of this reading is deeper. We must live our of faith and beware that we have to walk the walk and and not just talk the talk. What we do and act is important. The example we give is meaningful to the young and old.

My stepson was a struggling single parent. He raised two kids on his own with the help of his mom( my wife) and on the surface everything was good. However, his example to his kids was not good. He makes lots of money but at one time he himself used drugs in front of the kids. My son is a recovering drug addict and I am proud of him that he is recovering but unfortunately one of his children followed his example. He lives in another city is using heroin. It breaks his grandmother's and my heart to see this young man waste his life.

What we do and say is important no matter what age we are. We have to live our faith and the example we give is important even on the way we die. When we live our faith we are God's messengers on earth. We are His hands and heart.

Thank you very much for sharing this reflection. Yes, our elderly are very much part of the richness of the family and society. We should look at their presence as opportunity for kindness, compassion, care, gentlemess and service.
