DESPERATE FATHER

In today’s Gospel, we encounter a desperate father. His child is dying. Like any loving parent, he will do anything to save his son. So, he travels a long distance to find Jesus and begs him: “Sir, come down before my child dies.” This man was an official—someone with status, influence, and probably wealth. Yet in that moment none of that mattered. When his child was sick, he was simply a father in need. His power could not heal his son. His position could not save him. Only Jesus could.

But Jesus does something surprising. The man asks Jesus to come with him to his house. Instead, Jesus simply says: “You may go; your son will live.” And the Gospel tells us something very important: “The man believed what Jesus said to him and left.” Notice this: the miracle had not yet been confirmed. The father had no proof. No visible sign. No doctor’s report. Only the word of Jesus. Yet he believed.
And while he was on the way home, his servants met him with the good news: his son had recovered at the very moment Jesus spoke those words. Faith That Trusts the Word of Jesus. This Gospel teaches us something about faith.

This Gospel also reminds us that desperation can bring us closer to Jesus. This father would probably never have come to Jesus if his child had not been sick. His suffering led him to Christ. The same happens in our lives.

Sometimes it is: sickness, family struggles, financial difficulties, fear for our children, that push us to our knees in prayer. But those moments can become encounters with Jesus.

At the end of the Gospel something beautiful happens. The Scripture says: “He and his whole household came to believe.” One person’s faith changed an entire family. The faith of a father saved his child and led his whole household to believe in Jesus.

This is very important for families today. Parents, your faith matters. Your prayer matters. Your example matters. Your faith can lead your children to Christ.

Whatever burden you carry today—whether it concerns your children, your family, or your own life—bring it to Jesus. Like the royal official, let us trust Him even before we see the miracle. Because when Jesus speaks, His word is powerful.

Have a wonderful Week
