MONDAY OF THE 28TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME, YEAR C, OCTOBER 13, 2025

Jesus says that the generation he lived in was an evil generation.
How would you classify our generation, evil or good?
Jesus’s contemporaries seek signs. Don’t our people seek signs? Many people shop for churches, from one place of worship to another, from one mega church to another mega church.

Why do some baptized and raised Catholics leave to other denominations?
Why is the reason for the rise of the NONES (unaffiliated)?
Do we understand what we do as Catholics?
Do we have understanding of who and what we received at Mass in the sacrifice of the Eucharist?
If we really understand, the church pews will be filled up each weekend with people.

The relationship between the Eucharist and Mass attendance is a significant aspect of Catholic faith. A study by Georgetown University’s Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate found that 64% of adult Catholics believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, while only 17% attend Mass at least once per week.

If the people of Nineveh responded with faith to Jonah and if the Queen of the South showed such trust in Solomon, how much more should Jesus’ contemporaries have responded to him. The same Jesus preached and healed in the villages of Galilee is present to us as risen Lord. But we can fail to appreciate his presence among us.

Like his contemporaries, we can engage in a futile search for miracles without recognizing the quiet signs of his presence all around us.

May we see the Lord whom we seek. May we seek the Lord who loves us.

Have a blessed week

  1. Thank you, Father. It is amazing that such a high number of people who believe in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist do not attend weekly mass. Jesus is all around us but only in the Eucharist can we truly become one with Christ.
