MONDAY OF THE 15TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME, JULY 14, 2025

In our readings today, we are reminded that following the will of God can be hard, even at times disruptive of peace.

Jesus paradoxically states, “I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.”

Yes, Jesus brings “sword”. As we know, it is never easy to be a good follower of Jesus. Jesus never promised us an easy life, a life without difficulties and problems, rather, Jesus promised us eternal life. So, when we are faced with challenges and difficulties, may we never despair. Rather may we make sacrifices and efforts to follow the Lord faithfully.

Being a Christian, is not a bed of roses. We may face opposition, rejection, and hardships from those who are closest to us, our own family members and closest friends at times. Disagreements about religion can stir trouble in families. What the Lord gives is not “peace at any price”, but a special kind of peace that comes from staying close to Jesus.

If there is discord within our family, let it be for the sake of Jesus

Simeon blessing the infant Jesus in the Temple in Jerusalem uttered these words to Mary as she held the infant Jesus in her arms: “This child is destined to be the downfall and the rise of many in Israel, a sign that will be opposed” (Luke 2:34). The world and its ways hate the Lord and His truth, His ways and righteousness. Let’s remain steadfast.

Jesus wants us to be welcoming people, thankful for what others may offer us. Even such a simple gift as a cup of cold water will be noted to one’s credit, in the book of life. We have to prepare and strengthen ourselves, our resolve and commitment that we may always be faithful as disciples of Christ.

Have a wonderful week
