MONDAY OF THE 13TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME, JUNE 30, 2025

Abraham argues and bargain with God to spare the wicked cities of the plain (Genesis 18:16-33). The actions and persistence of Abraham show the tenacity and wonders of the prayer of intercession and petition. God ‘heard’ the great outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah.

Abraham initiated his bargain “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
– Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will you then sweep away the place and not forgive it for the fifty righteous who are in it?
– Suppose only forty-five are righteous are lacking will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?”
– Suppose forty are found there.”
– Suppose thirty are found there.”
– Suppose twenty are found there.”
– Suppose ten are found there.”

The haggling prayer continues until he gets down to ten, at which point God ends the conversation. Unfortunately, ten righteous people could not be found. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed

The passage shows four things:
– Our freedom to argue and bargain with God
– God’s patience to listen to us.
– The closeness between the compassionate God and his people.
– But finally, they yield to God’s wisdom and sovereignty.

The Scripture says “What profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?

Jesus emphasizes on the other hand, the need to have a concrete resolve to serve God. If we do, God will provide all our needs just like He does for the birds of the air and the fish in the sea.

May we never forget that God created us to Know Him, Love Him, Serve Him and Glorify Him all the days of our lives.

Is God at the center of your life?

Have a wonderful Week

  1. I think a lot of people believe in God, but He is not the center of their life. They believe so they can have eternal life, but to live on earth with God as the center of their life? That’s another question.

  2. Thank you Father. I pray daily that I do his will, not mine so that I do keep him at the center of my life!
    Another important reflection from you.
    Thank you!

  3. Thank you, Father Eke! An important reminder about placing the focus on God in our lives

  4. Great question..”Is God at the center of your life?” Unfortunately, not always…thanks for the reminder…I needed that..
