Dan, the letter is to Titus, not Timothy, as you write.

I couldn’t help but think of all the priests who abused children, and th bishops who covered it up, snd may even have engaged in the abuse themselves directly. Shame on our Church! Shame on us for all the name-calling, gossiping, and complaining without doing anything about it.

Chris Wheeler, I also thought of your experience at your former church whrn I read about what the presbyters should be like. I hope you have found a better parish, if one is nearby.

Amen to that Dan! Well said. I keep praying for strong, unifying, truthful heeling for our church and country. I have to trust in a better outcome for both, but oh Lord it is hard some days. Thank you Dan for your truthful, on point words today. God bless you.

Jesus could have added this to St. Paul’s list : ‘Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the one through whom they occur. ….’ As you mentioned Joe, civil discussions were the norm – not anymore. The animosity some leaders stir up is disheartening. Either they have never heard/read this passage, or they couldn’t care less. They encourage others to anger and hatred, and then justify it. You are quite right, it’s happening in our churches too. What is interesting is that Jesus does not deny that sin occurs, we all fall short of the glory of God, but most of us don’t justify our sins, cover it up, sweep it under the rug! We go for confession and begin again. Jesus is warning that we should not encourage others to sin …. that is happening in the workplace, politics, and sadly in our churches.

Lord, fill us with the courageous spirit of St. Josaphat

Todays reading and Gospel seem to shout out for leaders with strength and the qualities described. Where are those leaders? Is there anyone out there that can get us out of this mess…we cant even talk with each other with respect and compassion. Josaphat we need you now!
