Chris, I really appreciate your prayer of TRYING to listen. That’s how I have to start wording it to the Lord. So many voices, so much confusion, even Biblical passages that go against other Biblical passages.

As always, Mary, thank you for the context! Definitely helps to shape a better picture of the discourse of the Bible. Keep up the good work!

Excellent question Mary: “Do they (popes, cardinals, bishops, and priests … writers, commentators on secular and religious TV, and those who post on Facebook or YouTube. Everybody (including me! [and those of us who comment]) has an opinion, and with the touch of some buttons on our computer we can “call the sheep” across the world. When I read or listen to all of the above mentioned people, these days, I need to get a ‘second opinion’ from a different source. Which reminded me of Levi who said to Samuel, next time you hear the voice, say “Speak Lord, your servant is listening”. It occurred to me that sometimes we don’t recognize the Shepherd’s voice because there are so many other voices vying for our attention. I often catch myself saying the same thing when I can’t make a difficult decision – except I’ve started to say ‘speak Lord, I’m TRYING to listen’

I too pray ‘help me to distinguish your voice today’ … “Lord, today give me the grace to know when it is you”

I can tell, that week after week, you really listen to the Holy Spirit when writing. This piece really speaks to me because I ask the question often, What would Jesus say or do? When I pray, sometimes I speak in tongues, and usually it is all made clear. So I can really relate to the idea that the animals on your farm follow your Father’s voice just as we try to follow the voice of Jesus through the daily noise of the world. Very helpful reflection, Mary! I was confused over Jesus stating he was the shepherd and also the gate. That makes more sense to me now. Thank you for bringing more light to the scriptures as you always do for me.

Great farm story. Who’s voice do we listen to? Who’s gate do we pass through? Listen closely for the voice we should recognize…the Good Shepherd calls and waits. Thank you Mary
