Dear Mary, your writings and insight are wonderful, which is why I ask this question: Though I understand the thoughts in the prayer you shared, the words “I am afraid,” trouble me partly because God tells us never to be afraid and secondly, because as an anxious person, Faith is where I turn to calm down. This prayer seems to instill the constant brain thoughts of “I’m never going to be enough,” which can paralyze progressing in faith.

Can you share how one might wrestle with this in a healthy way while reading the prayer?

Thank you.

p.s. I’m a couple days late in reading your reflection but I enjoy yours so much I go back and read them.😊

By Objective Moral Standards, you can’t make abortion right. But by situation ethics, millions of women convince themselves that in their situations, abortion is warranted. For years I worked in a pregnancy problem center that counseled against abortion. I met many women considering abortion. None saw the choice as easy. All thought “in my situation it is the best thing to do”—a practical application of situation ethics. So often it took so little to show the lie of that. Abortion is a prime example of how good God and the church are to give us Objective Moral Standards. We can solve problems by reason and truth, rather than by situation and panic emotions. Thanks for the question.

Mary, thank you for writing. Your faith is inspiring! There is one thing that has caught my eye this time and I find it hard to grasp. When would an abortion be "right"?

Thank you Mary for a solid introduction to the standards of the the Church. Many eye opening points that we may read often but not live. Lent is a perfect time to evaluate our standards and see how they match up.
