Thank you for the Lectio Steps Mary. I’ve tried it before but have never completed it. Yes, it is very HARD. I’m going to try again. Today’s gospel reading is one of the best ones to practice lectio – don’t judge, don’t condemn. Look for the best in the other. Before I read the daily scripture, I pray Speak Lord,your servant is listening. God has been taking good care of me, and I don’t realize it until I sit quietly and review the day. Even though there were some bumps along the way, like a certain animosity by a neighbour, who sneered at me “so you’ve been on vacation!” Since it was a gorgeous, warm day, I was carrying two bags of groceries as I climb the stairs, I chose to respond cheerfully “Ah, summer has arrived”. Her response was “hymp, you’re positive!” Winter is not completely over yet – we have a saying if March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb. I was away for the lion part of March and am enjoying the lamb part. When I pray lectio, I will keep my neighbour in mind and hope whatever unhappiness she is harbouring, God will help her through it.

Mary thank you for giving us the steps. I will definitely try it. I find that as I get older I get worse at listening because I am afraid I will lose my train of thought, which is usually what happens if I don’t interrupt the speaker. It is definitely a hard skill to master.

Listening is a skill that has to be trained and practiced. Once mastered it opens your world to God and to others. You obviously have done this well Mary and I thank you for helping me be better at this. I will be working on it.

Thank you Mary. Listening is difficult, and really does require the resolve to do so. God tells us repeatedly to listen to His Son. Lectio divina is a willingness to make the effort. I’m going to make a fresh effort for Lent, and hopefully form a habit that goes on. God bless.
