Hey Laura,

Not that I am a spokes person for the Church, but I think you are missing the point of the priest. I suggest you look at what St Thomas Aquantis said about the state of holiness of the priest during any of the sacraments. The Church is not about priest, it is about the body of Christ.

Thank you Dan for taking on this very heartbreaking situation that we are hearing about in the news right now. As a volunteer in prison ministry, I’ve heard the comment countless times from secular people that our church harbors priests who are pediphiles. It is hard to evangelize the Catholic faith in the wake of such terrible atrocities that our own priests have committed. The laity has to deal with the long term repercussions of their actions. I just look folks in the face and tell them that the overwhelming majority of our priests are good, holy, decent men. The men who committed these crimes do not reflect the Catholic faith that the rest of us believe in. Our holy priests need our prayers and support more than ever right now ... and so do the victims.

Hey Dan,

I must complement you on a well thought out and written reflection.

The thoughts of St Bernard's pertaining to today's Gospel reading get right to the point. It's the title, "On Loving God", is what got me thinking. How do you love God? I have a hard enough time trying to figure out "I am who I am" let alone love I AM.

Thanks Dan, every catholic needs to take responsibility for his / her part in the church. Not just leave it to leaders, but take charge of your little part in the church. Represent / reflect Christ in everything we do.

Daniel, your last paragraph is spot on. We need, right now, an extraordinary reformist to lead the church out of this morass. It would have been good for you to mention the victims. It is not likely that they are resting in Jesus' peace. They need help so much more than the rest of us.
