Nice reflection. But…

I don’t think Jesus ever said that money was the root of all evil. Read Mt 15:19. In that verse Jesus states where evil originates, from the heart. Again, it’s St Paul who writes that it’s the “love of money” that is the problem, not money itself. I would think he’s referring to the first commandment.

My second thought is how people who aren’t rich point fingers at the people who are, I guess the correct term is class envy. Many times they are happy to see the rich fail, at least that’s what’s on the cover of a lot of tabloids. My thought, can’t we just be happy with other people’s successes?

Lastly, even though the tendency of some people is to look at money as evil, I would like to see them live without it. Be grateful for what you have.

I would like to comment on Father Maurice Henry Sands’ comment in Columbia magazine, “The sharing of our diverse cultures and traditions with one another enriches the Church. We Native Americans bring to the rest of the Church the value of respect – respect for God, for life, for one another for elders, for nature and tradition – as well as a rich and profound understanding of the importance of family like.”

While I agree with the notion of respect, Fr. Sands’ comments suggest that others do not have and bring respect to the Church, which is not accurate.
