A good article, Bob. Possibly inspired by you, I have adopted prayer for our country and politicians of all persuasion. England is not dissimilar to the USA in that the people do not trust any politician or government; the main parties (Republicans & Dems for you, Conservatives & Labour for us) have drifted into being managers seeking to please the passing fancy rather than having commitment to bring helpful long term change; and they all lie rather than co-operate. We must stop damning ‘the other’ (immigrants, greedy capitalists, lazy workers, etc) and return to family, community & society. In the end we can only pray for Jesus to return and recover his world; and in the meantime speak out for His values.

All humans are flawed, including elected officials who have power and position at their disposal. Why pray for them? Because God anointed them to lead the country. David displayed a deep-rooted respect for divine authority when he chose not to kill Saul when he had the opportunity (1 Samuel 24). Like them or not, we pray because God can restore beauty from broken.

Hi Bob. I like your prayer for removal of the wicked from positions of power.
My questioning of your prayer asking for justice for the president, and now others, was intended to ask that we also pray that they in turn, act justly, love tenderly & wslk humbly.
Thanks for contiuing to remind us all to treat all people regardless of colour, race, creed, sexuality, legal status with love, respect & compassion

Thank you Bob. We appreciate your reflections and prayers. Our government officials are just mere humans also struggling with sin. Praying for them supports their fight against wickedness. May the grace of our Lord guide them for heaven's sake. Peace with you my brother.
