Friday, November 21st, in Ordinary Time

‘Now that our enemies have been defeated, let us go up to purify the sanctuary and dedicate it.’ So they marshalled the whole army and went up to Mount Zion.

Who said confession is good for the soul?

“One of the most famous examples of confession in the Bible is King David’s response after committing adultery with Bathsheba and arranging for her husband’s death” The expression seems to have been Scottish in origin but In the Catholic Church cleansing and rededicating of the temples of our souls comes from the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

On top of a mountain the air is thinner, and the sun is stronger, and our souls are laid bare. The enemy we have to fight is the Devil and our own weaknesses. We overcome them through Jesus Christ.

The point of today’s scripture is that political parties, nations, churches, and most importantly individuals need to purify and cleanse our souls through self-examination and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It should be routine and heartfelt, but it has to be done daily and on a regular basis.

A clean soul is a happy soul!

God love you always

  1. Thank you Mr Burford. Cleaning you soul by the sacrament of reconciliation brings us to a state of indescribable peace. Thank you Jesus for this incredible gift. 🙏

  2. Thank you for the short but on point reflection Bob. I had really never noticed the analogy of the temple and our souls and how we need to be “cleansed” occasionally. The more often, the better. Keeps small messes from becoming big messes, right?
